Having demonstrated his talent in Formula Regional Middle East earlier this year, Zachary ‘Zach’ David now has his eyes set on an even bigger challenge in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA). The Malta-licensed Filipino driver rejoins R-ace GP as part of the French squad’s lineup in the 10-round 2024 calendar that begins this weekend.
David made steady progress as he moved up the FIA’s single-seater pyramid. He found success early in 2023, securing a win and two podiums as he entered the full season in Formula 4 UAE. A single race weekend in Formula Winter Series yielded a pair of race victories at Catalunya, before he took on the ultra-competitive Italian F4 Championship. David concluded the season with four hard-earned podium finishes at Imola, Misano, and Spa-Francorchamps to land an impressive 3rd in the Rookie Cup.
Come the 2024 season, the 16-year-old took the opportunity to step up to Formula Regional Middle East with R-ace GP. The trilling five-round championship saw the young Filipino score four podiums to finish 4th both in the Overall Driver’s and Rookie Cup standings, earning 10 Super License points to his name. Not only did his efforts contributed to R-ace GP bagging the Team Championship, but David also finished not far behind Formula 1 juniors in the championship and ahead of several FIA F3 drivers.
After a short break, David is now ready to take on the Formula Regional European Championship. He forms part of R-ace GP’s three-car lineup and compete alongside Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) driver Tuukka Taponen and Red Bull Junior Enzo Deligny.
The championship gets the green light this 10th to 12th of May at Hockenheimring in Germany, before it tours world-renowned Formula 1 circuits such as Zandvoort and Hungaroring. It will then conclude at Monza on the 25th to 27th of October to complete the 2024 calendar. With two races per weekend, it will see David race the Philippine and Maltese flags in 20 race starts in total.

Zach David: “A lot positives coming from preseason testing. We went through our program and we should now be ready for the first round at Hockenheim. My goal in FRECA is to learn as much as I can. The competition here is really tight so every little bit counts. I’ll try to do the best I can and enjoy the races in the process. I also think it’s quite important to be representing the Philippines and Malta at this level of motorsports. It’s good to put both countries up there and give them recognition they deserve.”
